Iron oxide pigments can break down unpredictably during the fading process. Brown brows may shift to red, orange or yellow tones as different pigment components fade at different rates.

Your Natural Brows Stay Safe
The PicoWay laser targets pigment only and does not remove hair. Hair loss is extremely rare. In some cases there may be temporary lightening or a short term change in growth cycle, however the hair typically returns to its natural colour over time.
If desired, brow tinting can usually be performed once the skin has settled.
Oxidation and treatment limits
With some cosmetic tattoos, particularly those created using lighter or warmer pigments often used for blonde clients, there can be a point during the removal process where further laser treatment is no longer effective. In certain cases, these pigments can oxidise and shift to a grey or darker tone.
If this occurs and the remaining pigment is not suitable to be worked over by a brow artist, alternative non laser removal methods may be considered as a last resort.
In most cases, laser has already removed the majority of the pigment by this stage, which can significantly improve the outcome compared to starting with non laser methods alone.
Why Choose Laser Over Saline Removal?
Some cosmetic tattoo artists offer saline removal as an alternative to laser. While it can have a place in certain situations, it works very differently and is generally not our preferred approach.
Laser removal targets pigment within the skin without creating an open wound, allowing the body to gradually clear the ink over time. In contrast, saline removal works by creating a controlled injury to the skin, drawing pigment up through the surface as it heals.
For most cosmetic tattoos, laser offers several clear advantages:
Precision
Laser targets pigment directly within the skin, allowing for controlled and even fading. Saline relies on a surface healing response, which can be less predictable.
Efficiency
Laser typically achieves results in fewer sessions, with continued fading between treatments. It is also far more effective on heavily saturated cosmetic tattoos where there is a higher volume of pigment. Saline removal can be significantly less effective in these cases and often requires multiple treatments with slower overall progress.
Skin integrity
Laser treatments are designed to minimise unnecessary damage to surrounding skin. Because saline works by creating a wound, there is a higher risk of textural changes if the skin does not heal well.
In some cases, particularly where certain pigments have oxidised and can no longer be safely treated with laser, saline removal may be considered as a final step. By this stage, the majority of the pigment has usually already been removed with laser, which can improve the overall outcome.

How many sessions does cosmetic tattoo removal take?
If you are planning a cover up or new brows, often only a small amount of lightening is required before your brow artist can work over the area. In these cases, most of the darker pigment is targeted first, with any remaining softer tones usually manageable by your brow technician.
For clients wanting more complete fading, additional sessions are required over time as the pigment continues to break down and clear gradually between treatments.
Will laser removal affect my natural eyebrow hair?
In some cases, there may be a temporary change in the hair growth cycle or slight lightening of the brow hairs during the treatment process. However, this is not permanent and normal growth typically resumes over time.
If desired, brow tinting can usually be done once the skin has settled after treatment.
Why did my eyebrow tattoo turn orange, grey, or blue?
Brown pigments often contain a mix of red, yellow, and blue. As the tattoo fades, remaining red and yellow components can become more noticeable, which may appear as orange, red, or pink tones.

Can you fix a cosmetic tattoo that another clinic couldn't remove?

Is cosmetic tattoo removal painful?
