General Aftercare Guidelines
The first 24 to 72 hours following your laser treatment are critical for healing. Following these guidelines reduces complications and supports faster skin recovery. All ERAZE protocols are developed from clinical experience treating thousands of Gold Coast clients.
- Keep the treated area clean and dry for at least 24 hours. Avoid swimming pools, spas, baths, and the ocean during this period.
- Apply a clean, wrapped cold compress if swelling develops. Never apply ice directly to treated skin.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing over the treatment area to prevent friction and irritation.
- Allow blisters, scabs, and flaking skin to heal naturally. Picking or scratching delays healing and increases scarring risk.
- Protect treated skin from sun exposure for one to two weeks. Apply SPF 50+ sunscreen to healed skin before any outdoor activity.
- Use only aftercare products recommended by ERAZE. Avoid scented lotions, essential oils, retinol, and glycolic acid on treated areas.
- Support tissue repair by staying hydrated, eating nutrient-rich foods, and getting adequate sleep.
Tattoo Removal Aftercare
Tattoo removal requires multiple sessions spaced six to eight weeks apart. How well you care for your skin between treatments directly affects how quickly your tattoo fades and whether you experience complications. Learn more about our tattoo removal process and the technology we use.
What to Expect After Treatment
Immediately following your session, you may notice redness, swelling, and a whitish discolouration called frosting. These are normal responses indicating the laser has targeted the ink particles. Within the first few days, blistering may occur, particularly on newer or heavily saturated tattoos. This is part of the healing process and should not cause concern.
ERAZE uses PicoWay technology, which produces shorter pulse durations than traditional Q-switch lasers. This reduces thermal damage to surrounding tissue and typically results in faster healing with fewer side effects. Read more about how different laser technologies compare.
Healing Timeline
Days one to three typically involve the most swelling and potential blistering. By days four to seven, blisters begin to dry and scabs may form. Complete surface healing usually occurs within two weeks, though deeper tissue continues healing for several weeks longer. Your next treatment should be scheduled no sooner than six weeks after your previous session to allow complete tissue recovery.
Tattoo Fading for Cover-ups
If you are lightening a tattoo for a cover-up rather than complete removal, the same aftercare applies. Proper healing between sessions ensures your skin is in optimal condition for your tattoo artist to work with. Visit our tattoo fading page for specific information about preparing for cover-up work.
Cosmetic Tattoo Removal Aftercare
Cosmetic tattoos including microblading, ombre brows, lip blush, and permanent eyeliner require specialised aftercare due to their location on delicate facial skin. ERAZE treats all cosmetic tattoo types with protocols specifically developed for sensitive areas. See our dedicated cosmetic tattoo removal page for treatment details.
Eyebrow Tattoo Removal
Microbladed and powder brow tattoos often contain different pigment types than body tattoos, which can affect how they respond to laser treatment. After treatment, keep the brow area clean and dry. Use sterile saline solution or cooling compresses if discomfort occurs. Avoid sun exposure, brow grooming, waxing, threading, or exfoliating treatments until healing completes. Do not apply brow makeup, tint, or skincare serums to the area for at least five to seven days. Allow skin to flake naturally without picking or exfoliating.
LipLiner or Blush Removal
Lip treatments require extra care due to the thin, sensitive nature of lip tissue. Expect temporary swelling that may persist for 24 to 48 hours. Avoid hot, acidic, or spicy foods for at least 24 hours following treatment. Apply recommended lip balm as directed and resist licking the treatment area. Avoid oral contact until the skin surface has fully sealed.
Mole Removal Aftercare
ERAZE has extensive experience in cosmetic mole removal with more before and after results than any surrounding Gold Coast clinic. Our high-frequency technique seals the skin as it removes the lesion, minimising bleeding and leaving only a superficial scab.
Healing Process
Following mole removal, a small scab will form over the treatment site. This scab typically falls off within five to ten days when left to heal naturally. Do not pick, scratch, or attempt to remove the scab early. The tissue beneath needs time to regenerate.
Keep the area clean and dry. You may gently cleanse around the treatment site but avoid scrubbing or applying pressure. Apply any aftercare product recommended during your appointment.
Long-Term Care
Once the scab has fallen off naturally, you may notice slight colour variation at the treatment site compared to surrounding skin. This typically fades over several weeks to months. Protect the healing area from direct sun exposure and apply SPF 50+ sunscreen daily to prevent hyperpigmentation.
Pigmentation Treatment Aftercare
PicoWay pigmentation treatments at ERAZE target freckles, sun spots, age spots, liver spots, and melasma across all skin types including darker skin tones. The picosecond pulse duration shatters pigment into tiny particles with minimal heat transfer to surrounding tissue.
Immediate Response
Following treatment, expect mild redness and possible swelling for approximately 24 to 72 hours. Treated pigmented areas may initially appear darker before fading. This darkening is normal and indicates the laser has successfully targeted the pigment.
Recovery Timeline
Darkened pigment typically crusts and flakes off within seven to fourteen days. Avoid picking at crusted areas. New skin beneath may appear pink initially but will normalise over the following weeks. Strict sun protection is essential during this period, as UV exposure can cause new pigmentation or worsen existing concerns.
Skin Rejuvenation Aftercare
ERAZE offers multiple skin rejuvenation treatments including fractional laser, Dermapen skin needling, eMatrix, and radiofrequency skin tightening. Each treatment type has specific aftercare requirements.
Fractional Laser
Fractional laser creates microscopic columns of treated tissue surrounded by untreated skin, which accelerates healing. Expect redness and mild swelling for 24 to 72 hours. Tiny pinpoint scabs may form and will naturally exfoliate over five to seven days. Avoid sun exposure and apply recommended aftercare products. Full results develop over eight to twelve weeks as collagen remodelling occurs.
Dermapen Skin Needling
Skin needling creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen production. Redness resembling mild sunburn is normal for 24 to 48 hours. Keep the treatment area clean and apply recommended serums as directed. Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours and active skincare ingredients for five to seven days.
Radiofrequency Skin Tightening
Radiofrequency treatments stimulate collagen and elastin production with minimal downtime. Mild redness may occur but typically subsides within hours. You can resume normal activities immediately. Results continue developing for up to six months as new collagen forms.
Tips for Faster Healing
Recovery speed varies between individuals based on age, overall health, treatment area, and adherence to aftercare instructions. These strategies support your body’s natural healing processes.
- Stay well hydrated. Adequate water intake supports cellular function and waste removal.
- Eat protein-rich, nutrient-dense foods. Your body requires amino acids, vitamins, and minerals for tissue repair.
- Get sufficient sleep. Tissue regeneration accelerates during rest periods.
- Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours after treatment. Alcohol dilates blood vessels and can increase swelling and bruising.
- Do not smoke. Smoking constricts blood vessels and significantly impairs healing.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours after treatment to reduce swelling and prevent irritation from sweating.
- Keep the treatment area out of direct sunlight. UV exposure damages healing tissue and can cause hyperpigmentation.
